This bill modifies provisions of the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) to allow members to purchase service credit for periods of military service. The bill includes two main provisions: 1. It allows PERA members to purchase service credit for periods of federally protected military leave, provided they return to public service within the required timeframe and did not receive a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge. Members must pay the equivalent employee and employer contributions, plus interest, to receive the service credit. 2. It allows PERA members with at least three years of service credit to purchase service credit for other periods of military service, either before becoming a public employee or if they failed to obtain credit for a prior military leave. The purchase price is determined under the service credit purchase provision in state law. The bill is effective the day following final enactment.
