This bill increases the volunteer firefighters' and ambulance workers' tax credit for New York residents. For taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2019, the credit is increased from $200 to $500 for single filers who have served for less than five years, and from $200 to $1,000 for single filers who have served at least five years. For spouses filing jointly, the credit is increased from $400 to $1,000 where at least one spouse has served for less than five years, and from $400 to $2,000 where both spouses have served at least five years. The bill also extends the expiration of this credit to a future date.
