This bill makes the following key changes to the laws governing professional engineers in Maryland: 1. It requires applicants for a professional engineering license to pass an examination in the fundamentals of engineering before they can take the examination in the principles and practice of engineering. 2. It repeals certain provisions related to fulfilling continuing professional competency requirements for licensed engineers. Instead, it provides that licensed engineers who reside in another state can be deemed to have met Maryland's continuing competency requirements if they comply with the requirements of their home state, their home state requires continuing competency, and their home state provides reciprocity for engineers licensed in Maryland. 3. The bill takes effect on October 1, 2019.
