This bill amends the Transportation Code to impose an additional fee for the registration of electric and hybrid vehicles. Specifically, it defines "electric vehicle" as a motor vehicle that uses electricity as its only source of power, and "hybrid vehicle" as a motor vehicle that uses both gasoline or diesel fuel and electricity as its sources of power. The bill requires an additional fee of $200 for electric vehicles and $100 for hybrid vehicles at the time of registration or renewal. The fees collected must be deposited into the state highway fund. The bill takes effect on September 1, 2019.
