This bill amends existing law to revise provisions regarding the practice of pharmacy. It expands the list of products that pharmacists can prescribe, including tuberculin purified protein derivative products. The bill also specifies that any drugs, drug categories, or devices prescribed by pharmacists must be in accordance with the product's FDA-approved labeling and limited to conditions that do not require a new diagnosis, are minor and generally self-limiting, have a test used to guide diagnosis or clinical decision-making that is waived under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, or in the pharmacist's judgment, threaten the patient's health or safety if not immediately dispensed. The bill prohibits the Board of Pharmacy from adopting rules authorizing pharmacists to prescribe controlled drugs, compounded drugs, or biological products.
