This bill aims to make kindergarten mandatory for all children in Georgia prior to entering first grade. It lowers the age of compulsory school attendance from 6 to 5 years old, requiring all children enrolled in public schools for 20 days or more to become subject to compulsory attendance laws, even if they have not yet reached 5 years old. The bill also clarifies that it is the policy of the state that all children shall attend kindergarten for one school year before enrolling in first grade, in order to provide them with an equal opportunity to be prepared for a successful first grade experience.
