Bill Summary

An act to amend Section 51430 of the Education Code, relating to high school diplomas.

AI Summary

This bill would authorize high school districts, unified school districts, county offices of education, or charter school governing bodies to retroactively grant high school diplomas to students who were in their senior year during the 2019-20 school year, were in good academic standing and on track to graduate as of March 1, 2020, but were unable to complete the statewide graduation requirements due to the COVID-19 crisis. This is in addition to the existing law that allows such retroactive diplomas for individuals who were interned during World War II or were honorably discharged veterans of certain wars.
