AI Summary

This bill, the Community Paramedicine or Triage to Alternate Destination Act, would establish a program until January 1, 2024 that allows local emergency medical services (EMS) agencies to develop community paramedicine or triage to alternate destination programs. Community paramedicine programs could provide services like directly observed therapy for tuberculosis, case management for frequent EMS users, and other community-focused services. Triage to alternate destination programs could provide care for hospice patients, assess patients and transport them to authorized mental health or sobering facilities instead of emergency departments, and transport veterans to VA emergency departments. The bill sets standards for these programs, including training and accreditation requirements for community paramedics and triage paramedics, as well as oversight and reporting requirements. The bill also modifies the membership of the Commission on Emergency Medical Services.
