This bill amends Chapter 271 of the General Laws to allow for the hosting of "social card games" at municipal senior centers in the Commonwealth. Social card games are defined as card games such as poker, pinochle, bridge, rummy, canasta, or hearts, where the winnings of any player in a single game or session do not exceed $50, the amount contributed by a single player during the entire session is $5 or less, all money wagered is distributed to the players by the end of the session, and no person receives any profit outside of the players' winnings. The bill also states that nothing in the chapter shall authorize the prosecution, arrest, or conviction of any person for hosting or playing in a social card game in a public or private setting, though private establishments may still refuse to permit such games.
