Bill Summary
Relative to bilingual ballots. Election Laws.
AI Summary
This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to require that voters in cities or towns that require bilingual ballots be entitled to receive all election-related materials, including ballots, in bilingual form. For candidate names that use non-Roman alphabets, such as Chinese and Khmer, the state secretary must provide transliteration of the names using the same standards as for transliterating city, county, or state names. Candidates are given the opportunity to modify or decline the proposed transliteration of their names, and the state secretary has final approval over the official transliterated names.
