Bill Summary
Relative to conservation and natural gas infrastructure. Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy.
AI Summary
This bill amends Chapter 164 of the General Laws to require gas companies, prior to adding new natural gas capacity to their systems, to first recapture an equivalent volume of natural gas lost from the system by repairing identified gas leaks within the same municipality. If all identified leaks in a municipality have been repaired, the gas company must then pursue alternative conservation measures within the municipality or repair identified leaks within the region. The bill also requires the Department of Public Utilities to promulgate regulations to implement this new requirement and to oversee and monitor the company's repairs.
