This bill establishes a special task force to review and report on the economic impact of welfare reform in the state of Massachusetts. The task force will consist of 10 members, including legislators, government officials, and representatives from workforce development and economic development organizations. The task force's responsibilities include identifying and reviewing relevant state laws, regulations, and administrative directives; examining the connection between the low unemployment rate and the welfare minimum eligibility requirements; proposing new welfare eligibility requirements based on updated economic and labor statistics; and developing recommendations to establish legislative procedures that reduce the number of citizens on welfare while maintaining a low unemployment rate in the state. The task force is required to submit a report, including any draft legislation and regulations, to the state legislature within 12 months of the passage of this act.
