This bill aims to expand access to patient-centered care for opioid use disorder. It proposes the following key provisions: 1. The Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine will develop or provide a healthcare provider education campaign to encourage the adoption of all FDA-approved medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder, including guidelines and best practices for assessment, toxicology screens, treatment plans, detoxification/withdrawal management, care coordination, appropriate length of treatment, and relapse prevention. 2. The Department of Public Health and the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services will establish a peer mentoring program to supplement the healthcare provider education campaign, providing a network for peer-to-peer trainings, materials, and prescriber and clinical team support, with a focus on providers serving areas with limited access to medication-assisted treatment. 3. A grant program will be established to support providers who demonstrate the ability to offer all FDA-approved medications, along with counseling and other supports, directly or by referral. 4. The Department of Public Health will create an inventory of healthcare providers treating patients with medications to measure the adoption of offering all FDA-approved treatment options across the Commonwealth and submit a report on the number of providers trained and any identified obstacles to expanding the number of providers offering all FDA-approved medications.
