This bill aims to further regulate the siting of solid waste facilities in Massachusetts. It proposes to amend existing law by adding three new subsections to Section 150A1/2 of Chapter 111 of the General Laws. The first new provision requires consideration of potential adverse impacts on Environmental Justice Populations (defined as low-income or minority communities) within one mile of the proposed site. The second provision requires consideration of the potential for the site to be impacted by sea level rise or coastal storm surge due to climate change. The third provision requires consideration of the proximity and potential impacts of the site on designated Areas of Critical Environmental Concern.
