This bill amends existing law in Massachusetts to require towing and storage providers to provide additional information and notifications to lienholders of motor vehicles that have been towed and stored. Specifically, the bill requires towing and storage providers to: 1) include the names and addresses of all lienholders on the notice they provide when a motor vehicle is towed; 2) notify all lienholders by certified mail within 14 days of the first day of storage, providing details about the storage charges and how to recover the vehicle; and 3) exercise due care to prevent negligent acts while the motor vehicle is in their possession. The bill also requires that a motor vehicle owner's written assent be obtained before work is performed on the vehicle. Finally, the bill adds notification requirements for public garages holding a vehicle for more than 14 days.
