This bill establishes a Task Force on the Impacts of Obesity and a pilot program to provide coverage for the assessment, identification, treatment, and management of obesity and related conditions, including medications and counseling. The Task Force will examine the impact of obesity in the Commonwealth, make recommendations for guidelines and protocols related to obesity screening, education, prevention, and treatment, and explore the impacts on the prevalence of co-morbidities. The pilot program, to be conducted by the Group Insurance Commission, will provide coverage for eligible participants, selected based on their body mass index and comorbidities, for up to 500 individuals per year. The bill requires the Commission to review the results and outcomes of the pilot program and provide a final report with recommendations on how to reduce, manage, and treat obesity under a state health insurance plan.
