Bill Summary
Relative to bus driver periodic testing. Transportation.
AI Summary
This bill amends Chapter 90 of the General Laws in Massachusetts to require licensed school bus drivers to consent to periodic testing of their blood, breath, or urine to determine their alcohol concentration or presence of other drugs. The bill allows the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to order these tests periodically or as a condition of license renewal, and law enforcement officers can also administer tests if they have probable cause to believe the driver is operating the bus while under the influence. Drivers who refuse testing or test above the legal limit will be disqualified from driving a school bus for one year, and repeat offenders can be disqualified for life. Drivers who are disqualified have the right to a hearing before the Registrar on limited issues.
