This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to require all residential buildings that contain combustible gas-burning equipment, such as furnaces, boilers, and water heaters, to be equipped with working, approved combustible gas detection alarms. The bill directs the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations to promulgate regulations on the type, installation, location, maintenance, and inspection requirements for these alarms. Additionally, the bill requires inspections of such buildings upon sale or transfer, and allows the state building code to impose stricter requirements for new construction or substantially renovated buildings. The head of the local fire department is responsible for enforcing these new requirements, and the Department of Public Health is tasked with incorporating these provisions into the state sanitary code.
