This bill amends the Insurance Code to require health benefit plan issuers to include additional information in their provider directories, including the specialty of each provider, a listing of facility-based physicians (such as radiologists, anesthesiologists, and emergency department physicians) practicing at each in-network facility, and the specific health benefit plans that cover services provided by each facility and facility-based physician. The bill also requires the directories to be electronically searchable by provider specialty and location, and to be publicly accessible without requiring the user to provide personal information. Health benefit plan issuers must update their websites to comply with these new requirements by January 1, 2020, and the bill takes effect on September 1, 2019.
