This bill amends the "Quality Basic Education Act" to require that all elementary schools in Georgia schedule recess for students in kindergarten through 5th grade every school day, with some exceptions for inclement weather, field trips, and other reasonable circumstances. The bill also encourages schools to provide an average of 30 minutes per day of supervised unstructured activity time, preferably outdoors. The bill requires local school boards to establish written policies to ensure that recess is a safe experience and that it is scheduled to provide a break during academic learning, and that recess cannot be withheld for disciplinary or academic reasons.
