This bill amends Chapter 176D of the General Laws to require insurers to directly and promptly pay ambulance service providers who provide emergency ambulance services to the insured, even if the provider is not under contract with the insurer. The payment rate to the provider will be equal to the rate established by the municipality where the patient was transported, except for non-profit corporations licensed to operate critical care ambulance services that perform both ground and air transports. The provider receiving such payment will be deemed to have been paid in full and cannot further bill the insured, except for any applicable coinsurance, copayments, or deductibles. The bill does not limit or affect an insured's right to receive benefits under their insurance policy or create an entitlement to coverage for ambulance services if the policy does not already provide such coverage.
