This bill allows counties, municipalities, and independent school districts in Texas to authorize the use of preferential voting for the election of certain officers. Preferential voting allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes, the votes of the candidate with the fewest votes are reassigned to the voter's next preferred candidate until one candidate receives a majority. The bill also states that a primary election is not held for these offices, and a runoff election is not required.
