This bill amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to expand the eligibility for expunction (removal) of arrest records and files. Key provisions include: allowing expunction if the person was acquitted, pardoned, or if charges were dismissed after a certain time period; requiring expunction petitions for certain misdemeanor offenses to be filed in justice or municipal courts; and providing guidance on when law enforcement and prosecutors can retain records and files. The bill applies to arrests occurring before, on, or after the effective date of September 1, 2019.
