This bill proposes to amend the New York State Constitution to increase the term limits for state senators and assembly members. Specifically, it would extend the term length for senators from 2 years to 6 years, and for assembly members from 2 years to 4 years. The bill also limits the number of consecutive terms a senator or assembly member can serve to 3 and 4 terms, respectively, but allows them to serve additional terms after taking a break from office for at least one term. The proposed amendments would apply only to terms of office commencing after the amendments are adopted.
