This bill requires lodging establishments that use fossil fuel-burning equipment or have an attached garage to install operational, approved carbon monoxide alarms in the vicinity of the fuel-burning equipment and in every unit on the same floor within 18 months of the law's effective date. The bill defines key terms such as "lodging establishment" and "approved carbon monoxide alarm." It also makes the lodging establishment owner responsible for maintaining, repairing, or replacing the alarms, and imposes a fine of up to $50 for willful failure to install or maintain the required alarms.
