This bill requires all public and nonpublic schools in Pennsylvania that use fossil-fuel-burning equipment or have attached garages to install approved carbon monoxide alarms in the vicinity of every classroom located on the same story within 18 months of the bill's effective date. The bill defines various terms such as "approved carbon monoxide alarm," "classroom," "fossil fuel," and "installed." The governing body of each school is responsible for maintaining, repairing, or replacing the alarms. Willful failure to install or maintain the alarms is punishable by a fine of up to $50.
