Sub. H.B. 70 of the 131st General Assembly to dissolve academic distress commissions and to instead require improvement plans for certain low-performing school buildings.

AI Summary

This bill dissolves and replaces academic distress commissions for school districts. Instead, it requires school buildings that receive an overall grade of "F" on their state report card to establish school improvement teams to develop and implement evidence-based plans to improve student outcomes. The bill also repeals the existing statutory provisions related to academic distress commissions and the related restructuring process for low-performing school districts. Overall, the bill shifts the approach from state-imposed academic distress commissions to locally-driven school improvement planning.
