This bill revises the light motor vehicle fees for state parks, fishing access sites (FAS), and state-owned buildings in Montana. Specifically, it removes the option for vehicle owners to opt-out of paying the $6 fee that goes towards state parks, fishing access sites, and state-owned facilities. Instead, the $6 fee will be collected for all light vehicle registrations, with $5.37 going to state parks, $0.25 going to fishing access sites, and $0.38 going to the Montana Heritage Preservation and Development Commission for state-owned facilities in Virginia City and Nevada City. The bill also adds a new $5 fee for light vehicle registrations that will be deposited into a special account and used for transportation purposes. These changes will go into effect on January 1, 2020.
