This bill amends the law concerning dues for volunteer fire departments in Arkansas. It allows the quorum court of each county to adopt an ordinance authorizing a designated county official to collect and remit the annual dues charged by volunteer fire departments for providing fire protection to unincorporated areas. The bill sets forth the process for calling an election on the issue of the levy of volunteer fire department dues, and it establishes the maximum amounts of dues that can be collected as a prerequisite to the payment of real property taxes. The bill also allows active members of a volunteer fire department to be exempt from the annual dues at the discretion of the volunteer fire department.
