This bill requires the President, in consultation with relevant federal agencies, to develop a strategy to secure and protect U.S. fifth and future generations (5G) wireless communications systems and infrastructure. The strategy, known as the National Strategy to Secure 5G and Next Generation Wireless Communications, aims to (1) ensure the security of 5G systems within the U.S., (2) assist allies and partners in maximizing the security of their 5G systems, and (3) protect the competitiveness of U.S. companies, privacy of consumers, and integrity of standards-setting bodies. The bill also requires the President to develop an implementation plan that addresses security threats, assesses U.S. and allied competitiveness, identifies security gaps, and outlines diplomatic, development, and research efforts to maintain U.S. leadership in 5G security.
