This bill amends Louisiana law to prohibit insurers from requiring that motor vehicle repairs be made at a particular repair shop. The bill also prohibits insurers from recommending a specific repair service without informing the insured that they are under no obligation to use the recommended service. Additionally, the bill prohibits insurers from engaging in any acts of intimidation, coercion, or threats to force the use of a specified repair service. The bill empowers the insurance commissioner to levy fines against insurers who violate these provisions, ranging from $1,000 for a first offense to $5,000 for a third or subsequent offense within a 12-month period. Violations can also lead to the suspension or revocation of an insurance producer's license.
