This bill, the Jonny Wade Pediatric Cancer Research Act, aims to increase funding for the 10-Year Pediatric Research Initiative Fund by eliminating taxpayer financing of presidential election campaigns. It does this by terminating the taxpayer election to designate $3 of income tax liability for financing of presidential election campaigns, the Presidential Election Campaign Fund, and the Presidential Primary Matching Payment Account. The Department of the Treasury must then transfer the remaining funds from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund to the 10-Year Pediatric Research Initiative Fund. The bill also encourages the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to coordinate and prioritize pediatric cancer research that does not replicate existing NIH research activities.
