This bill, the Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act of 2019, requires the Department of Health and Human Services to conduct an interagency review on the status of women and lung cancer. The review will report on the current research and knowledge gaps, identify new opportunities for collaborative research to determine the causes of lung cancer and advance prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment, and provide recommendations for a national cancer screening strategy and public education campaign. The bill acknowledges the disparate impact of lung cancer on women, especially non-smokers, and calls for accelerating the implementation of lung cancer preventive services and coordinating public awareness efforts on the importance of early detection.
