The bill allows institutions to request access to a student's personal social media account only under certain limited circumstances, such as to ensure compliance with laws or regulations, investigate student actions, or follow judicial directives, and requires institutions to notify the student and provide justification before making such a request. The bill also creates a civil cause of action for students or applicants to seek damages and other relief if the institution violates these provisions.
