This bill, known as "John's Law," aims to improve special needs transportation and student safety. It amends Chapter 71B of the General Laws to require that any bus driver, monitor, or qualified attendant responsible for transporting a school-age child with a disability on a "special transportation van" (a van, bus, or other motor vehicle used exclusively or primarily for this purpose) be trained and certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Additionally, the bill mandates that school districts provide these personnel with a written report identifying any sensory, neurological, emotional, communication, physical, intellectual, or health impairments that may affect the safety of the child during transportation, if required by the student's individualized education program or with parental consent.
