AI Summary

This bill requires the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to update its environmental sensitivity index (ESI) products for each coastal area of the Great Lakes at least once every seven years. The ESI products are maps or similar tools used to identify sensitive shoreline, coastal, and offshore resources prior to an oil spill event, in order to set priorities for protection and plan cleanup strategies. The bill sets priorities for NOAA when updating the ESI products, such as considering the age of existing products, the occurrence of extreme events that have significantly altered the shoreline or ecosystem, and the volume of vessel traffic and vulnerability to spilled pollutants.
