This bill requires criminal record checks for officials, referees, or umpires officiating at certain athletic events organized by or associated with schools. The bill amends existing laws to mandate that school committees or their designated representatives obtain criminal offender record information from the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services before accepting any such officials as employees, volunteers, vendors, or contractors who may have direct or unmonitored contact with children 18 years of age or younger. The bill also requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide guidelines to school committees to assist in implementing these new requirements within 30 days of the bill's effective date.
