This bill amends the Town Law and Village Law to require local building and planning regulations to accommodate the use of various renewable energy technologies, including solar thermal, photovoltaics, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal electric, geothermal ground source heat, tidal energy, wave energy, ocean thermal, farm waste electric generating equipment, and fuel cells. However, the bill also clarifies that it does not require towns or villages to amend their existing local building codes or zoning regulations, and it will only apply to comprehensive plans established or amended after the effective date of the bill.
