Bill Summary

A bill to amend the Safe Drinking Water Act to require the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to set maximum contaminant levels for certain chemicals, and for other purposes. This bill requires the Environmental Protection Agency to issue a maximum contaminant level goal as well as a national primary drinking water regulation for certain perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly referred to as PFAS. The substances are man-made and may have adverse human health effects. A variety of products contain PFAS, such as nonstick cookware or weatherproof clothing.

AI Summary

This bill requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to issue a maximum contaminant level goal and a national primary drinking water regulation for certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS are man-made chemicals that may have adverse human health effects and can be found in various products like nonstick cookware or weatherproof clothing. The bill also directs the EPA to consider options for tailoring monitoring requirements for public water systems that do not detect or are below the maximum contaminant level for PFAS, and to prioritize providing technical assistance and funding to help small, rural, or disadvantaged public water systems comply with the new regulation.
