This bill requires physicians practicing in New York to complete six hours of coursework or training on nutrition, including plant-based nutrition and other clinically proven methods for preventing, reversing, and treating diet-related illnesses, every two years starting from July 1, 2023. The bill also requires physicians to provide documentation to the Department of Health demonstrating their completion of the required coursework or training, and allows for exemptions for those who do not engage in direct patient care, provide patient consultations, or reside in New York. The Department must consult with organizations representing professions, institutions, and experts in nutrition and the prevention, reversal, and treatment of diet-related illnesses to develop the regulatory standards for the coursework or training, and coursework or training funded by commercial food production entities or their trade organizations will not satisfy the requirements.
