This bill requires providers of voice service to implement the STIR/SHAKEN authentication framework in their internet protocol networks within 12 months. STIR/SHAKEN is a technology that attaches a certificate of authenticity to each phone call to verify the source of the call. The bill also provides enforcement mechanisms, including civil penalties of up to $100,000 for non-compliance, and authorizes the public service commission and department of public service to promulgate rules and regulations to implement and enforce the provisions of the bill.
