This bill amends the domestic relations law to include acts of domestic violence as a factor the court shall consider in determining the equitable disposition of property during divorce proceedings. The bill defines domestic violence as described in the social services law and requires the court to consider the nature, extent, duration, and impact of any such acts committed by either party against the other. The bill will apply to matrimonial actions commenced on or after its effective date, but will not affect the validity of any agreements made prior to the effective date.
