This bill establishes an LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) youth and young adult suicide prevention task force. The task force will have seven members appointed by the governor, legislature, and the commissioner of health. The task force will study current mental health practices and suicide prevention efforts, recommend ways to increase their effectiveness, and determine reasons for the high number of LGBT youth and young adult suicides. The task force can establish advisory committees, request studies and analyses from state agencies, and hold public hearings. The task force will submit preliminary and final reports to the governor and legislature with findings, conclusions, recommendations, and legislative proposals to implement those recommendations. The bill will take effect 60 days after becoming law and expire 2 years after the effective date.
