This bill amends the existing "An act to regulate the time and manner of payment of wages and fringe benefits to employees" to increase penalties and sanctions for employers who violate wage and fringe benefit payment laws. Specifically, it increases the penalty rate for unpaid wages and benefits from 10% to 100% annually, allows for up to 3 times the amount of unpaid wages and benefits as exemplary damages if the violation is flagrant or repeated, and increases the maximum civil fine from $1,000 to $10,000. The bill also allows the Department of Labor to order employers to pay attorney, hearing, and transcript costs. This amendment aims to strengthen enforcement and deter employers from violating wage and benefit payment laws.
