This bill amends the definition of "direct relationship" in the Correction Law to mean that there is a substantial connection between the nature of the crime for which a person was convicted and the duties or responsibilities of the license, opportunity, or job in question, and such connection would create an unreasonable risk to property or to the safety or welfare of specific individuals or the general public upon the issuance or continuation of a license or the granting or continuation of employment of such person. The bill also amends the law to prohibit the denial or adverse action on an application for a license or employment based on a previous criminal conviction unless there is a direct relationship, as defined, between the previous criminal offense and the specific license or employment sought or held.
