This bill amends Chapter 40A of the General Laws to require that development projects greater than or equal to 10,000 gross square feet or containing 10 or more residential units include a solar energy system that covers at least 50% of the roof area of all buildings. If the site includes an uncovered parking structure, it must also have a solar energy system installed to cover at least 90% of its top level. The bill also requires a solar assessment to be submitted to the building code enforcement official, which includes an analysis of the site's solar energy systems and the maximum feasible solar zone area. The state board of building regulations and standards is required to promulgate regulations to establish minimum standards for new construction to accommodate a solar energy system under this law within one year of the effective date.
