Bill Summary

This bill exempts contractors that provide fire and burglary alarm installation services or locksmith services from the requirement to participate in a registered apprenticeship program under "The Public Works Contractor Registration Act," P.L.1999, c.238 (C.34:11-56.48 et seq.). Under current law, all contractors are required to participate in a registered apprenticeship program under "The Public Works Contractor Registration Act" to be eligible for public works contracts. Contractors in the State that provide fire and alarm installation services and locksmith services have not established apprenticeship programs that have been registered with and approved by the United States Department of Labor. Additionally, the educational and licensing requirements for these contractors are provided for under other laws.

AI Summary

This bill exempts contractors that provide fire and burglary alarm installation services or locksmith services from the requirement to participate in a registered apprenticeship program under "The Public Works Contractor Registration Act." Currently, all contractors are required to participate in a registered apprenticeship program to be eligible for public works contracts. However, the educational and licensing requirements for contractors providing fire/alarm installation and locksmith services are already provided for under other laws, so this bill aims to remove the additional apprenticeship requirement for these specific types of contractors.
