This bill establishes an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) youth and young adult suicide prevention task force. The task force will have seven members appointed by the governor, state legislature, and health commissioner. The task force will study current mental health and suicide prevention efforts, recommend ways to increase their effectiveness, and determine reasons for the high suicide rate among LGBT youth and young adults up to age 24. The task force can establish advisory committees and request studies from state agencies to assist in its work. It must submit preliminary and final reports with findings, recommendations, and legislative proposals within 13 and 22 months, respectively. The bill takes effect 60 days after becoming law and expires 2 years after the effective date.
