This bill proposes to further regulate the compensation of members of the Massachusetts General Court (the state legislature). The key provisions are: 1) The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House will each receive an additional $50,000 per regular annual session on top of their base compensation. 2) The chairs of the Senate and House Committees on Ways and Means will each receive an additional $35,000, the floor leaders of the major parties will each receive an additional $30,000, and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker Pro Tempore of the House will each receive an additional $25,000 per regular annual session. 3) Each member of the General Court will receive an additional $15,000 per regular annual session. 4) The additional compensation amounts will be adjusted biennially to reflect changes in salaries and wages in the Commonwealth. 5) Each member will also receive an annual expense allowance of $12,500 if their primary residence is within 50 miles of the State House, or $17,500 if their primary residence is more than 50 miles away.
