This bill, known as the Healthy Workplace Act, provides legal protections for employees against abusive work environments and sets forth remedies for violations. It defines "abusive conduct" as intentional acts or omissions that result in physical or psychological injury, including repeated verbal abuse, threatening or humiliating behavior, and undermining of an employee's work performance. The bill prohibits employers and employees from subjecting employees to such abusive work environments or retaliating against employees who report violations. It establishes employer and employee liability, affirmative defenses, and available remedies, including reinstatement, back pay, damages for pain and suffering, emotional distress, and punitive damages. The bill also preserves the rights and protections provided under existing collective bargaining or arbitration agreements.
